myAbode joins forces with Sutton Group real estate

UPDATED WITH INTERVIEWS: Sutton Group real estate has joined forces with myAbode to create a Canadian network of over 12,000 agents who, together, handle over 60,000 transactions valued at billions of dollars annually across the country.

The consolidation unites two of Canada’s most prominent domestic real estate organizations, combining Sutton Group’s growing network with myAbode’s technology and brokerage optimization expertise. They also create one of the largest real estate brokerage networks in the country.

The investment will go toward developing Sutton’s wealth management and credentials platform to be known as Sutton Wealth, CEO Ross McCredie told RENX Homes in an interview.

“What we found was there’s just a lot of overlap in terms of the two businesses,” he said about both companies.

As part of the transaction, McCredie will join the myAbode board of directors, while president and COO James Innis will become chief investment officer of myAbode, leading brokerage operations nationally. Both also continue in their leadership roles at Sutton.

Bronwyn Smith, CEO of Toronto-based myAbode, will join the board of Sutton Group to work alongside Sutton leaders and advance the industry through technology innovation. She called the consolidation "a very exciting partnership," in the announcement.

Sutton and myAbode are building a way to “give optionality to agents and consumers” and provide agents with tools and security without needing to go to a U.S. company, Smith later said in an interview with RENX Homes.

"Strategic investment" by myAbode

The transaction involves a “strategic investment” by myAbode into Sutton Group, according to the announcement. McCredie and Smith declined to disclose financial details of the investment.

Sutton Wealth, currently under development and planned for release this year, is being designed to offer Canadians more access to real estate data. Agents can get a clearer picture of the value of a home and the options to extract value, Smith said, helping them speak to their clients about better handling the biggest investment many will ever make.

It will also issue credentials to real estate professionals such as agents, lawyers and accountants, McCredie said. At a time when popular artificial intelligence tools are at risk of tapping into incorrect information, Sutton looks to build a trust network to address such a problem. myAbode saw the offering’s value, McCredie said.

Sutton’s technology will be offered to myAbode brands over time, he added.

myAbode was interested in Sutton Wealth because it would provide real estate agents with wealth advisory abilities, Smith said, complementing myAbode’s offerings on brokerage operations.

Brokerages under pressure

Brokerages are being pressured to amalgamate in today’s market, Smith said, a trend that started in the U.S. and which she expects to seep into Canada. Smaller and older brokerages are struggling to compete, so investing in the company and adopting new technologies like artificial intelligence are becoming critical to stay ahead of the pack.

“This is a moment that brokerages are redefining themselves and making sure that their value to the agents is extremely strong,” Smith said.

myAbode runs operational infrastructure for Canadian residential real estate brokerages, handling deal processing and compliance. The platform assists broker-owners in operating compliant, efficient businesses, freeing-up agents to focus on deals and delivering client service.

Backed by Toronto investment firm Round13 Capital, myAbode operates Right at Home Realty and Property.ca, serving brokerages across Canada.

Founded in 1983, Sutton Group is based in Vancouver and spent the past year expanding its nationwide network. In February 2025, it announced new franchise partners in Surrey and New Westminster, and a dedicated hub for British Columbia. In October, Sutton opened new offices in Calgary and Kelowna.

McCredie Investments acquired Sutton Group in 2023. That firm is also a Vancouver-based company led by McCredie, who serves as its principal.

Sutton Group has just under 200 offices and close to 100 franchise partners, with the majority in Quebec, Ontario and British Columbia.  The company has approximately 6,000 agents, McCredie said.
